How is Ultherapy Different from Lasers?

Houston women who are looking for a more youthful face, but aren’t ready for a facelift, often explore alternative, non-invasive treatments. And in that quest to find a gentle facial solution, many will come across both Ultherapy and laser treatment. But what’s the difference between the two, and which should you choose. Read on, because we’ve done the research for you.

What is Laser Treatment?

Laser treatment is a facial rejuvenation technique in which very quick, pulsating beams of light are targeted at your face’s problem areas, such as wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars and other skin irregularities. As the light is shined onto your face, it reduces layers of your skin, thus tightening the skin and eliminating the appearance of your problem facial issues.

Laser treatment is effective, but it does require a regimented aftercare routine. You need to wash your face between 2 to 5 times a day, use moisturizers and wear sunscreen. You may also find that your face is red, itches, scabs or oozes out a secretion for a few days. Finally, the areas targeted on your face will peel. All of these side effects combined may make Houston women want to skip some social events for a few weeks as they recover. After your face peels, you will notice that the new skin is pink, and it takes a few months for it to return to its normal pigmentation.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is an ultrasound-based solution that uses heat to tighten the skin beginning several layers below the surface, about 3 to 4.5 mm below the surface of your face. Ultherapy targets the same skin irregularities as laser technology, and can also be used on the neck, jowls, and chest.

One of the most loved things about Ultherapy is that there is no downtime with the therapy. Houston women can literally come in for an Ultherapy session in the morning, and return to work in the afternoon! Even though there is no recovery time for Ultherapy, you may notice that for a few hours, your skin is flushed or red, swollen, tingly or tender to touch and that you might have some bruising or numbness. These side effects will all go away within a matter of hours, however, unlike the days it takes to recover from laser therapy.
