Forever Young BBL™/ IPL

Healthy skin is youthful-looking skin, but even people who have a daily skincare regimen often can’t avoid certain cosmetic concerns associated with aging. Sun damage, brown spots, broken capillaries, or a red, flushed appearance are all issues that we can treat with Sciton® Forever Young BroadBand Light (BBL™) treatments in Houston, TX, at Ovation® Med Spa.

Whether you notice these signs of aging on your face, arms, legs, or another area of your body, restoring evenly toned skin can make a dramatic difference. A BBL treatment can provide benefits similar to those of laser resurfacing and chemical peels—with less discomfort and a shorter recovery.*

Which Is Better BBL or IPL?

BBL is a newer intense pulsed light (IPL) device that helps our Houston clients correct specific skin conditions. BBL is much stronger than an IPL photo facial, and treatments are faster than IPL devices. It can be particularly effective for reversing a lifetime of sun damage.

What Is BBL Skin Rejuvenation?

BBL (BroadBand light) photo facial is a phototherapy treatment that addresses common signs of aging such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation, loose skin, and dull skin tone. It’s most often used to treat the:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Hands

How Does BBL Work?

BBL uses an intense beam of broad-spectrum light that targets the lower layers of the skin without harming its surface. When the light energy is absorbed, it stimulates your skin cells to generate new collagen. The light energy also heats and breaks up the melanin in pigmented lesions and blood cells that cause redness, which the body then naturally flushes away. The result is improved color, consistency, and texture of your skin.*

Skin Analysis With VECTRA® & VISIA®

There’s more to your skin than meets the eye. These advanced skin imaging cameras reveal sun damage, uneven texture, underlying pigmentation issues and more. Get an in-depth look at your skin’s health and compare your scans over time to see your improvements come to life.

What Does BBL Treat?

Ovation Med Spa offers this leading technology from Sciton for treating many different skin conditions, including:

  • Pigmented lesions like freckles and age spots
  • Vascular lesions (cherry angiomas, telangiectasias, rosacea, and others)
  • Acne
  • Deeper lesions and darker types of skin

Even though BBL is not FDA-cleared for anti-aging or changing gene expression, a 2012 Stanford University study found that BBL treatment can “restore the gene expression pattern of photoaged and intrinsically aged human skin to resemble young skin.”

Because of the way BBL works, our specialists don’t recommend it for clients with darker skin. However, we can offer alternative treatments to help these clients with pigmentation issues.

Which BBL Treatments Do You Offer?

We have 3 Forever Young BBL treatment options, Forever Young BBL, Forever Young BBL+, and Forever Body BBL, which together give us the capability to rejuvenate aging and sun-damaged skin wherever you need it. Review the table for comparison.

Your BBL Consultation

Clients considering BBL treatments meet with one of our specialists for a preliminary consultation, which we schedule for an entire hour. Very few med spas spend this much time consulting with clients prior to treatments, but we feel it’s important to give you time to ask questions, learn about your options, and have confidence in our care. During your appointment, your treatment provider will:

  • Talk with you about what you want to accomplish.
  • Conduct a skin assessment to evaluate your needs.
  • Make recommendations and show you examples using a dermascope, which allows you to see skin conditions magnified several hundred times.

This approach lets us narrow down treatment options. If you are a good candidate for IPL, we can discuss how BBL/IPL works and the technology behind the procedure as well as any post-treatment instructions.

What You Can Expect With BBL

Most of our clients tolerate photofacial/BBL treatments very well and believe any minor discomfort they experience is an excellent trade-off for the benefits they get:

  • Treatments typically last no more than 20 to 30 minutes for the face; other areas of the body may take longer.
  • Treatment providers use a handheld medical device to target concerns precisely and effectively.
  • Clients usually report little or no pain during the procedure and compare the sensation to having a rubber band snapped lightly against their skin.

How Many BBL Treatments Do You Need?

The recommended number of BBL treatments depends on the treatment option you choose, condition of your skin, and desired results. Generally, we recommend the following number of treatments each spaced 3 to 4 weeks:

  • Forever Young BBL: 3 to 4 treatments
  • Forever Young BBL+: 1 to 2 treatments
  • Forever Body BBL: 1 to 2 treatments

Will I Have to Continue My BBL Treatments to Maintain Results?

Clients typically have treatments up to 4 times each year to maintain their results.

Can BBL Be Combined With Other Treatments?

Forever Young BBL is highly effective on its own, and its results can be enhanced with other skin rejuvenation treatments. Our custom Ovation Trilogy Combination Treatment, for instance, combines BBL with Halo™ hybrid fractional laser treatments and Sofwave™ skin tightening to fully address skin texture, laxity, and tone issues. You may also want to support your newly refreshed skin with a facial such as HydraFacial® or DiamondGlow®.

What to Expect After Your BBL Treatment

Our clients typically return to work or home after BBL and jump right into their normal routine. However, we recommend that you protect the treated areas from the sun for at least a couple of weeks.

Side effects from a photofacial are very mild. Initially, you may notice that your skin is flushed, tiny capillaries seem more prominent, and brown spots appear darker. These changes usually fade within a few hours, though some clients need a few weeks to heal completely.

Beginning with your first treatment:

  • Your skin should take on an evener tone and smoother feel
  • Sunspots should fade, and skin redness and dilated capillaries should decrease gradually

Is a BBL Photofacial Worth It?

Because a photofacial has almost no downtime and offers significant restorative benefits, it ranks highly among our treatments in terms of client satisfaction.
