Microneedling
Trigger Collagen.
Rebuild Skin.
Microneedling — also called collagen induction therapy — is one of the most effective, research-backed methods for stimulating your skin's natural collagen and elastin production. The principle is elegant: thousands of precision-controlled micro-channels trigger the wound-healing cascade, recruiting fibroblasts to produce new collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans. The result is genuine structural improvement — firmer, smoother, more resilient skin built from the inside out. At Ovation, we use the Dr Pen Hydrapen for its precision depth control and consistent micro-channel creation. The device allows calibrated needle depth from 0.25mm to 2.5mm, enabling treatment customization from gentle epidermal stimulation to deeper dermal collagen induction based on the area and concern being addressed. But microneedling's value at Ovation extends beyond standalone collagen induction. The micro-channels it creates serve as direct delivery pathways for serums, growth factors, and exosome preparations — transforming microneedling from a single-mechanism treatment into a versatile platform technology. When paired with exosomes, PDGF, or other regenerative preparations, microneedling becomes the delivery system that makes everything else work better.
Microneedling is one of over 17 skin health technologies at Ovation. It's the collagen-induction foundation — effective as a standalone treatment and transformative as a delivery platform for exosomes, PDGF, and growth factor preparations. Patients from the Heights, Tanglewood, and the Energy Corridor drive to our Galleria-area office for microneedling sessions on Woodway Drive.

Microneedling works through the percutaneous collagen induction (PCI) mechanism — creating controlled micro-injuries that activate the three phases of wound healing: inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling.
- Thousands of micro-channels per treatment area
- Depth calibrated 0.25-2.5mm based on treatment zone
- Triggers localized inflammatory cascade at each micro-injury
- Minimal surface disruption preserves structural integrity
- Phase 1: Growth factor release and fibroblast recruitment
- Phase 2: Type III collagen production and new blood vessel formation
- Phase 3: Conversion to durable type I collagen over months
- Progressive structural improvement with each treatment cycle
Treatment Advantages
What to Expect
Before Your Session
Discontinue retinoids and exfoliating acids 5-7 days before treatment. Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E) for 48 hours prior if medically appropriate. Avoid excessive sun exposure for 1-2 weeks before. Arrive with clean skin free of makeup.
During Treatment
A topical numbing cream is applied 20-30 minutes before treatment. Once the skin is prepared, your provider uses the Dr Pen Hydrapen across the treatment area with calibrated depth settings — shallower on the forehead and periorbital area, deeper on cheeks and jawline where thicker skin allows more aggressive treatment.
The device moves in overlapping passes for uniform micro-channel distribution. Treatment takes 20-30 minutes for the face. If pairing with serums, exosomes, or PDGF, these are applied during and immediately after needling to maximize delivery through open channels.
After Treatment & Recovery
Expect sunburn-like redness for 24-48 hours. Mild swelling may occur, particularly if deeper needle depths were used. Do not wash the face for 6-8 hours if topicals were infused during treatment. After this period, use gentle cleanser and moisturizer only. Avoid active skincare ingredients (retinol, vitamin C, AHAs/BHAs), direct sun, and strenuous exercise for 72 hours. Apply SPF 30+ daily.
