Moxi
Gentle Precision.
Year-Round Maintenance.

Moxi is a non-ablative fractionated 1927nm thulium laser designed for gentle tone correction and preventive skin maintenance. Unlike ablative lasers that remove tissue, Moxi creates microscopic thermal zones in the upper dermis that trigger a controlled healing response — correcting early sun damage, evening tone, and stimulating surface-level collagen renewal without significant downtime. Safe for all skin types including Fitzpatrick VI, Moxi is the laser you use regularly, not just once. At Ovation, Moxi serves as the maintenance partner to more aggressive treatments — quarterly sessions that sustain results between annual Halo or BBL treatments. In Houston, where UV exposure is a 365-day reality, regular Moxi treatments prevent damage accumulation rather than waiting to correct it. Think of it as the skin health equivalent of regular dental cleanings — consistent maintenance that prevents expensive correction later.

The Science

How Moxi Works

Moxi's 1927nm thulium wavelength is primarily absorbed by water in the upper dermis, creating fractional thermal columns that trigger epidermal renewal and superficial collagen stimulation without ablating tissue or targeting melanin directly — making it uniquely safe and effective across all skin types.

Gentle Correction
1927nm Thulium Laser
The 1927nm wavelength is absorbed by water in the superficial dermis, creating microscopic columns of thermal energy. Surrounding untreated tissue serves as a healing reservoir, regenerating the treated zones with fresh, healthy cells.
  • Water-targeting wavelength reduces melanin-related complications
  • Fractional delivery preserves 80-90% of skin surface as healing bridges
  • Corrects early pigmentation and sun damage before it becomes severe
  • Stimulates superficial collagen renewal for improved skin quality
Maintenance Science
Preventive Skin Health
Regular Moxi treatments work on the principle of continuous renewal — preventing damage from accumulating to the point where aggressive intervention is needed. Each session replaces a fraction of photodamaged cells with new, healthy ones.
  • Quarterly treatments maintain consistent skin quality year-round
  • Prevents UV damage accumulation — critical in Houston's climate
  • MENDs (micro-debris) shed naturally, carrying damaged cells away
  • Cumulative improvement in tone, texture, and overall luminosity
Why Moxi

Treatment Advantages

🌿
Gentle Yet Effective
Non-ablative delivery corrects tone and prevents damage without the downtime or risk profile of aggressive lasers. Results build naturally with each session.
🌍
All Skin Types
The 1927nm wavelength's affinity for water over melanin makes Moxi safe for Fitzpatrick I-VI — one of the few lasers that darker skin tones can use regularly.
📅
Year-Round Treatment
Unlike some lasers that require seasonal timing, Moxi can be performed year-round with standard sun precautions — essential for Houston's never-ending summer.
⏱️
Minimal Downtime
1-3 days of mild redness and micro-debris. Schedule Thursday, socialize Saturday. No extended healing period, no dramatic peeling phase.
🔄
Perfect Maintenance Partner
Quarterly Moxi between annual Halo or BBL sessions keeps results sustained. It's the maintenance treatment in your long-term skin health plan.
🤝
BBL Power Pairing
BBL + Moxi in the same session — BBL for color correction, Moxi for gentle texture renewal — is Ovation's most popular maintenance combination.
Your Treatment

What to Expect

Before Your Session

Arrive with clean skin. We'll apply topical numbing cream for 20-30 minutes. No extensive pre-treatment preparation is required, though we recommend consistent sunscreen use in the weeks leading up to treatment.

During Treatment

The Moxi handpiece glides across the treatment area in a systematic pattern. You'll feel mild warmth and a prickling sensation — less intense than Halo. Full-face treatment takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Some clients find it comfortable enough without numbing.

If combining with BBL (our most popular pairing), the BBL component is performed first, followed by Moxi passes.

After Treatment

You'll have mild redness and warmth for the first several hours. Over the next 24-48 hours, tiny dark specks (MENDs) may appear — these are microscopic epidermal necrotic debris working their way to the surface. They look like fine pepper flecks and shed naturally within 2-3 days.

Moisturize regularly and apply sunscreen diligently. Most clients wear makeup by day 2 and resume all activities by day 3. Skin looks noticeably brighter and more even within 1-2 weeks.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Moxi different from Halo?+
Moxi uses a single non-ablative wavelength (1927nm thulium) while Halo combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. Moxi is gentler with less downtime (1-3 days vs 3-5) and is ideal for maintenance, prevention, and tone correction. Halo delivers more dramatic single-session correction for texture and sun damage. Many clients alternate between them — Halo 1-2x annually for correction, Moxi quarterly for maintenance.
Is Moxi safe for darker skin tones?+
Yes — Moxi is safe for all Fitzpatrick skin types (I-VI) when properly set. The 1927nm wavelength has a higher affinity for water than melanin, reducing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This makes it an excellent option for maintaining skin health in melanin-rich skin when other lasers might be too risky.
What's the downtime after Moxi?+
Minimal — typically 1-3 days. You'll experience mild redness and may develop tiny dark spots (MENDs — microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) that look like fine pepper specks and shed naturally within 2-3 days. Many clients schedule Moxi on a Thursday and return to normal social activities by Saturday.
How often should I get Moxi?+
For prevention and maintenance, quarterly Moxi treatments are ideal — especially in Houston where year-round UV exposure constantly challenges the skin. Some clients on aggressive prevention protocols get Moxi every 6-8 weeks during peak summer months. Your provider will tailor the frequency to your skin concerns and goals.
Can Moxi treat melasma?+
Moxi is one of the safer laser options for melasma management because of its non-ablative mechanism and water-targeting wavelength. While no laser "cures" melasma, Moxi can help manage pigmentation with lower rebound risk than more aggressive lasers. It's often part of a comprehensive melasma management protocol alongside topical treatments and BBL.
