What Causes Incontinence?

Incontinence is a frustrating affliction for men and women. But what causes incontinence in the first place? Well, there are many possible causes.

First, if you’re going through menopause, urinary incontinence is common, with the hormonal changes causing a breakdown in the lining of the bladder.

Age also plays a role. As we get older, the bladder muscle becomes weaker, and can fail to store urine.

An enlarged prostate (which is also common in older men), might also contribute to urinary incontinence.

There is no singular cause for this condition; it could be any of the reasons mentioned above, and more.

Who is Affected by Incontinence?

In this country, around 13 million people struggle with urinary incontinence. That’s a lot—that’s more than the population of New York CIty.

Considering the amount of people that experience urinary incontinence, it’s important to note that it is not a gendered issue.

While it does seem to affect more women than men, there are still many men who deal with this affliction. In fact, it has been predicted that 3 to 11% of men struggle with urinary incontinence.

So while women do indeed make up the majority of urinary incontinence cases, we have to treat this as a human issue, not one based on sexuality or gender. And given the numbers, it’s highly likely that someone you know is also dealing with it right now.

With an issue this wide-spread, it’s a wonder that we don’t hear about it more often. For some reason, despite its prominence, urinary incontinence is still stigmatized. There are plenty of people that are hesitant to discuss conditions related to the bladder and/or sexual health in general, but there are ways to combat it. Luckily, if you’re reading this article, and you’re one of the 13 million that suffer from urinary incontinence, you’re in the right place.

At Ovation Med Spa, there’s no reason to feel embarrassed. We’ve seen different problems of all shapes and sizes, and we want you to know that helping our guests reclaim their confidence is why we do what we do. No matter what, you can count on us.

Our Treatments

We’ve got multiple different urinary incontinence treatments in Houston, and they all work wonders. We know that everyone is different, which is why we build custom treatment plans to create a unique solution that works best for each guest.

Read on and see all the techniques and treatments we offer to combat your urinary incontinence.

diVa Treatment

First, we’ll discuss diVa treatment. diVA is a laser treatment that builds up tissue in the vaginal wall, which can help patients that are suffering as a result of menopause. Essentially, the way this treatment works is that we will insert a small cylinder into the vagina, which will then utilize a laser to resurface the vaginal wall.

It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, doesn’t it? Well, if you were wincing at the idea, don’t worry–the procedure is gentle and very tolerable to the majority of our guests.

ThermiVa

ThermiVa uses radiofrequency to stimulate growth in the vaginal wall. In some ways, it works similar to diVA, as it causes a small amount of damage to the vaginal tissue, so that it might grow to repair itself.

However, the difference here is that instead of a laser, ThermiVa uses electrodes to heat up the skin to stimulate tissue growth. ThermiVa is completely safe and does not require any anesthesia. In fact, the entire procedure only takes around 30 minutes. And just like diVA, the tissue growth that occurs as a result will help curb unwanted urination.

EMSELLA

EMSELLA is actually a chair designed to strengthen its user’s pelvic floor. The weakening of the pelvic floor is often linked to urinary incontinence. EMSELLA works by stimulating the user with High Intensity Focused ElectroMagnetic Energy, which causes contractions in the pelvic floor.

This treatment is completely non-invasive and requires no downtime. The user will feel the contractions, but will register as nothing more than a slight buzzing. Over the course of around half an hour, the EMSELLA user will have done the equivalent of over 10,000 pelvic floor exercises, all while sitting down!

O-Wave

As the name might suggest, the O-Wave treatment deals in shockwaves. But these shockwaves aren’t going to blow out your stereo. Instead, these shockwaves will actually lead to the growth of blood vessels in the vagina.

To put it simply, this procedure is a way to restore and rejuvenate the vagina. The O-Wave treatment is similar to many of our other treatments in that it is painless and takes around half an hour. The waves occur from a machine outside the body, so the process is utterly non-invasive. You’ll see results, but it doesn’t require any needles or lasers—or downtime.

O-Shot

The O-Shot is another effective treatment for urinary incontinence. This treatment consists of injecting the clitoris and labia with PRP to heal injuries and breakdowns in the genitalia. Possible pain from the injection is curbed with numbing cream. Results are fast acting, and can last as long as twelve months. Obviously, this shot is for biological women, but we offer another injection for men as well.

P-Shot

The P-Shot works the same way as the O-Shot. PRP is injected into the penis to heal certain afflictions in the penile area. Just like the O-Shot, you won’t have to worry about pain in any of your sensitive areas, as we will apply numbing cream to the region before the procedure begins. In addition to incontinence, the P-Shot can also help men that are struggling with erectile dysfunction.

Exosomes

Both the O-Shot and P-Shot use exosomes to combat urinary incontinence, though many people use PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma. What’s the difference, and why do we prefer exosomes?

The science is pretty complicated, but put simply, PRP is derived from the blood of the patient, whereas exosomes are brought in from an outside source. Exosomes stimulate growth at a much higher level (as they contain about 300-400 growth factors, compared to the 12-20 from an average 40-year-old’s PRP).

Schedule your urinary incontinence treatment in Houston at Ovation Med Spa

So now that you’ve read all about the different treatments that we offer, how do you get started? What does urinary incontinence treatment in Houston look like for you?

When it comes to treating a patient for incontinence, everyone is different. The order in which we use these treatments is sure to vary, and that can result in a different schedule. Since every person is different, it stands to reason that every treatment should be different too. That being said, while many other med spas might choose to focus on a single type of treatment, we do our best to ensure that we try it all.

For instance, we typically start a patient with the diVa treatment to see how they respond, and then, after a while, we could bring them back and put them on EMSELLA. Later, we might give them an O-Shot to see if that helps. But a different customer might respond better to the O-Wave and thermiVa. It changes from person to person, but that’s just fine with us.

When we have so many resources at our disposal it seems silly not to use them all. There’s no reason to stick to a single treatment. Our priority is taking care of our customers, and thankfully, at Ovation Med Spa, we have the ability to do just that.
